Wrong-Way Long Island Driver Charged With DWI After Crashing Into Building

A driver was allegedly drunk when he sideswiped a car before crashing into an apartment building on Long Island, police said.

The incident happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 23 in North Babylon.

The 29-year-old man was driving a 2003 Ford E250 van north on Deer Park Avenue in the southbound lanes near Edmonton Drive, Suffolk County Police said.

The driver then sideswiped a Nissan Altima before veering into a building on Springwood Drive, according to police.

Upon arrival, officers said that the driver, identified as Aliro Palaciostobar, of Deer Park, was allegedly intoxicated at the scene. 

He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip for evaluation, while the driver of the Nissan was uninjured, police said.

The Town of Babylon Building Inspector was also called to the scene to evaluate the damage to the building.

Palaciostobar was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. 

After being evaluated at the hospital, he was held overnight and scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday, Aug. 24.
